Charlie Ranger

Corporate & Event MC

Coming from a background in performance as an Actor across TV, Stage and Stand Up comedy, Charlie Ranger’s focus shifted through a natural progression towards work as an MC. What began as a couple of gigs in between acting jobs, gradually grew into consistent and steady work, taking what he’d learnt from the stage and screen into the events arena.

What a lot of clients may not know is that the skills of an actor are directly transferable into the world of an MC. It’s about getting a message across, about engaging an audience, about using humour to connect everybody in a space.

Charlie also trained as a teacher in a previous life. Picking up a Diploma in Education and, whilst practical experience in a school environment may not have been his calling, it offered insights into the different ways we all process and digest information. And also about how to make standing and talking to a room full of people sitting quietly anything but boring!

So from the theoretical into the practical it was time to deliver on all of this knowledge in a way that actually translated. As with anything in life, it’s from the mistakes that we learn and grow. And Charlie’s made plenty.

Early days as an MC were a combination of trying again and again until something clicked. Developing a style that was flexible enough to translate from a Dairy Farmers Conference one day to a Christmas Extravaganza for 1,000 pax at Crown Palladium the next. From working with Families and Kids to celebrate the AFL Grand Final Week in all its passionate glory, to Charity Fundraisers that demand an element of emotional connection to a subject close to hearts.

Charlie leans into what you might call an ‘Australian Style’. Not taking itself too seriously. Being able to take the mickey just enough to not offend, and a definite streak of self-deprecation that eases off the pressure valve for everyone in the room.

But behind that is a professionalism and sincerity that respects its subject matter. An acknowledgement that there is a goal to be achieved, and a room full of people that want to experience something new and invigorating. It’s not about being the star of the show, it’s about being the glue that holds it all together.
