Ian Healy AO

Australian Cricket Hall of Fame

Ian Healy is one of our greatest wicket-keeper batsmen. He amassed 119 Tests, scoring 4,356 runs, 366 catches and 29 stumpings. He held the world record for most Test dismissals by a wicket-keeper. Ian was a permanent fixture in the Australian side between 19988 to 1999, missing just the one Test due to a broken thumb. Ian also played 168 One Day Internationals scoring 1,764 runs, 195 catches and 39 stumpings.

Post retirement, Ian was acknowledged as the wicketkeeper in the Australian Cricket Board’s Team of the 20th Century ahead of greats such as Rod Marsh, Wally Grout and Don Tallon. He was recognised as a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1994, was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame in 2008.

These days, Ian is a profile cricket commentator, a regular on Nine News Queensland and owns a car wash business in Brisbane. His niece Alyssa Healy is the current wicketkeeper for the all-conquering Australian Women’s Cricket Team. The Ian Healy Foundation was set up by Ian and has made significant contributions to Save the Children, Prevent Blindness, Retina Australia and The Skin Cancer Awareness Study.
