Matty Johns is a Premiership winning legend who these days has his own shows – Sunday Night with Matty Johns and the Late Show with Matty Johns.
Matty played most of his career alongside younger brother Andrew Johns with the Newcastle Knights, representing the team between 1990 and 2001. His NRL career highlight with the Club was winning the historical 1997 Premiership. Matty was a member of the 1995 Rugby League World Cup winning team and represented the NSW Blues in State of Origin.
In retirement, Matty has dominated rugby league’s entertainment space as host of Fox Sports’ popular entertainment rugby league programs, Sunday Night with Matty Johns and the Late Show with Matty Johns. Matty was a member of Sydney’s breakfast show, The Grill Team on Triple M for eight years and prior to that a highly popular character on the Nine Networks The Footy Show. He is currently a regular member of the Fox Sports NRL coverage.
Matty has written a weekly Friday rugby league column, for the Daily Telegraph and released two books – Reg Reagan’s This Is My Life, Pan Macmillan and From The Sheds, Harper Collins, a hilarious look behind the scenes of rugby league. As well creating the ever-inappropriate Reg Reagan, Matthew has created a string of other much-loved characters that include Don Kirk, Trent the Flight Steward, and Mighty Mick Mathieson. In 2007 he made his major acting debut, starring in the Australian movie, The Final Winter, as coach Jack Cooper.
Matty is the host of Australia’s leading sports podcast, The Matty Johns Podcast, where he delves into one-on-one interviews with various sports stars as well as discussing current issues within the game of rugby league with his co-hosts.
