Better Homes & Gardens

Melissa King is one of Australia’s most popular and respected garden experts and television presenters. Melissa joins the Better Homes and Gardens team as its respected garden expert.

When she was growing up her grandparents owned a native plant nursery so she was always surrounded by plants. As a teenager she worked weekends in a Garden Centre in her hometown of Warrandyte.

Her passion for gardening then led her to complete a horticultural degree where she was dux of her course. Moving into radio she was spotted and channelled into a successful career as a TV presenter.

After four years on Gardening Australia alongside Peter Cundall, she moved to Channel 7 to host the gardening segment on Melbourne Weekender.

Since then she has combined her love of gardens, food and travel as one of the hosts of the travel series Gurus Explore, transformed front yards in make-over series Battlefronts, hosted the gardening segment on the morning show called The Circle and inspired people of all ages to get out into the garden on Garden Angels.

For over 10 years, Melissa starred in the established television series The Garden Gurus. She has also established her own retro online gardening and cooking show – The Gardenettes.

Melissa’s public speaking skills have seen her host a range of events and she is a regular presenter at garden centres and hardware stores around Australia as well flower and garden festivals both here and overseas.

Her flair for writing saw her release her first book in 2007 entitled Garden Feast focusing on the delights of cooking and growing your own heirloom vegetables. She has written numerous articles for top magazines and newspapers including Gardening Australia, Burke’s Backyard, The Age, Herald Sun and much more.

Melissa has released two roses named ‘Mother & Daughter’ and ‘Mother & Child’, which help to raise funds for Motor Neurone Disease Research.
