Michael Theo
Australian Actor Embracing Neurodiversity | ‘Love on the Spectrum’
Michael Theo is an Australian actor and voice over artist. He stars in the Northern Pictures comedy series Austin on the ABC and BBC alongside Ben Miller and Sally Phillips. His performance in the show was praised by David Knox of TV Tonight, who wrote, “Theo nails his scenes alongside more experienced performers, with all the required comic timing.” His exceptional work earned him recognition as one of the Casting Guild of Australia’s Rising Stars in 2024; and in 2025 he was nominated for a Silver Logie/‘Best Actor in a Comedy’ at the Logie Awards. He also received a nomination for an AACTA Award for ‘Best Acting in a Comedy’ in the same year. Currently Michael can be seen on the ABC in both Easy Tiger’s Caper Crew, as well as Shaun Tan’s animated series Tales from Outer Suburbia, starring Dawn French.
Prior to Austin, Michael was previously the break-out star of the ABC/Northern Pictures documentary series Love on the Spectrum appearing in the first 2 seasons of the show. LOTS was a heart-warming, hugely successful series that followed Michael and other young adults on the autism spectrum as they navigated the unpredictable world of love and relationships. His dapper style, unintentionally hilarious one-liners, big heart and warm personality made him an instant fan favourite both in Australia and internationally (the series seen on Netflix in various countries), where he earned a legion of overseas fans, including Ellen DeGeneres and then appearing on her US talk show Ellen in 2021. Michael made his professional acting debut in the Emmy Award-winning children’s drama Hardball (ABC/Northern Pictures). He has since developed a strong interest in comedy, animation, and voice work, and brings with him an array of character voices ready for new film and television projects.
As himself, he has appeared on projects like A Bite to Eat with Alice (ABC), House of Wellness (Seven Network), Playschool Story Time (ABC), and was also the subject of a recent Australian Story episode on the ABC in 2024. Michael has guest starred on numerous podcasts including Justin Long’s Life is Short, Ricki Lake’s The High Life and Australia’s hugely popular podcast series The Imperfects, among others.
A passionate animal activist, nature lover, and avid railway enthusiast, Michael is a strong believer in the mantra: “It’s our differences that make us all special.” He continues to champion this message across his social platforms, promoting inclusion, self-acceptance, and the celebration of neurodiversity. He previously hosted the widely successful podcast Mr A+ (DM Podcasts), where he created a safe and celebratory space for unique voices from all walks of life. Outside the creative sphere, Michael is an Ambassador for Wable, an app designed to help neurodivergent people build friendships and social connections. He also works as a consultant with Aspect Autism.
