Poh Ling Yeow
Poh’s Kitchen
Poh Ling Yeow captured Australia’s attention on the first season of MasterChef Australia in 2009.
After coming runner up in the finale, Poh thought she would return to a quiet life of painting and starting a cottage industry making jams for her local greengrocer but instead all of Poh’s fantastical food fantasies were realized when she was offered her own cooking show Poh’s Kitchen, on ABC1.
The first series of Poh’s Kitchen went to air in 2010 and ran for three consecutive seasons with the third season Poh’s Kitchen Lends A Hand screening to rave reviews. In 2015 Poh found a new TV home on SBS with her series Poh & Co, a fly on the wall look into her hectic life as a cook, an artist, and small business owner. The show proved a hit and SBS immediately commissioned an expanded second season of 9 episodes.
Running in parallel with her career as a TV chef is Poh’s venture into the world of food writing. In 2010 she fulfilled a lifelong dream of publishing her first cookbook, Poh’s Kitchen – My Cooking Adventures, which stayed in the top ten Australian bestsellers list for six weeks. Four years on Poh’s second cookbook with HarperCollins, titled Same Same but Different was released. Publishing interest continued to grow and a new deal was then signed with Murdoch Publishing for her third cookbook Poh Bakes A Hundred Greats, on shelves in time for Christmas 2017.
Coming from a huge family of proud Chinese Malaysian home cooks, Poh prefers to be called a cook. She hopes for nothing more than to get Aussies excited about cooking and eating a variety of cuisines and fostering an awareness of food wastage.
Poh was a fulltime artist before her life was turned on its head with her crazy love for slaving over a hot stove. She continues to paint. Exhibiting prolifically since 2002, she has over 20 exhibitions under her belt, 10 of which have been solos. Poh is represented by Hill-Smith Gallery, Adelaide and Libby Edwards Galleries, Melbourne. Her work appears in private and corporate collections in Australia and abroad.
