V8 Supercars Engineer – Trailblazer

Romy Mayer is one of the most highly respected race engineers in the Supercars paddock, celebrated as Supercars’ first female Race Engineer. 

Romy has established herself as a trailblazer over her 15 years in international motorsport working for renowned teams like Red Bull Racing and Mercedes Motorsport.

Romy’s journey began with a strong academic foundation in automotive engineering in Germany. She started her motorsport engineering career as a Data and Performance engineer with Mercedes Motorsport in the German Touring Car Series.

After six years, Romy was itching for a change. In 2015 she landed in Australia for a job with Red Bull Racing. She claimed three Drivers Championships with Jamie Whincup and Shane van Gisbergen and four Team Championships during her 6 years stint with the team.

In 2022 Romy was the race engineer for the teams’ Wildcard at Bathurst with Craig Lowndes achieving the best Wildcard result in Bathurst 1000 history. The same year she engineered a Mercedes AMG GT3 car, which won the GT World Challenge Asia Championship,

In 2023 Romy was looking for a new challenge joining a much younger, smaller Supercars Team PremiAir Racing. In less than a year the car she was engineering achieved its maiden Pole Position at the Triple Crown Darwin in 2024, followed by the teams’ first ever podium at the Sandown 500.

Romy is also a FIA Girls on Track Ambassador and Co-Founder of the Future Females Australia, and often presents at schools, universities and corporate events to encourage women to pursue a STEM-based career.

As a Keynote speaker, Romy translates high-pressure experiences from the paddock into actionable strategies for organisations, focusing on decision-making under pressure, data-driven performance, and effective communication. Drawing parallels between the processes and risk management behind a successful race operation and the corporate environments engages audiences of any industry.
