Sam Drummond is a human rights expert, broadcaster, disability advocate and compelling keynote speaker who brings together lived experience, professional expertise and a powerful commitment to creating a more inclusive society.

With a career spanning media, politics and law, Sam has developed a unique understanding of the challenges faced by people with disability and the importance of ensuring that human rights, equality and inclusion are embedded in the way organisations and communities operate. He now specialises in human rights and discrimination law, providing him with a sophisticated understanding of the legal and social issues surrounding disability, discrimination and equality.

Sam’s advocacy is deeply informed by his own experiences growing up disabled in a single-parent family in rural Australia. His 2023 memoir, Broke, provides an honest and often confronting account of his childhood and the multiple forms of disadvantage he experienced. Rather than simply telling a story of overcoming adversity, Sam uses his experiences to challenge assumptions about disability, disadvantage and opportunity, encouraging audiences to consider how systems and attitudes can either create barriers or enable people to thrive.

As a broadcaster, Sam is a regular contributor to ABC TV’s Weekend Breakfast and has established himself as an engaging commentator on issues affecting Australian society. He has also contributed to major disability-focused publications and projects, including Growing Up Disabled in Australia, Growing Up in Australia and We’ve Got This: Stories of Disabled Parenting.

Sam’s leadership extends well beyond speaking and broadcasting. He is Chair of JEC’s NDIS Strategic Advocacy Working Group and Monash University’s Campus Cohesion Advisory Committee, while also serving on the Australian Human Rights Commission’s Equality At Work Expert Advisory Group and the Ad Standards Community Panel. These roles place him at the intersection of disability advocacy, public policy, human rights and organisational change.

As a speaker, Sam challenges audiences to think differently about disability and inclusion.
