Shane Webcke

Four Times Premiership Legend

Shane Webcke aka the “Warhorse” played 254 NRL games for the Brisbane Broncos winning 4 Premierships in 1997, 1998, 2000 and 2006. He played 18 games for QLD in State of Origin and 26 Tests for Australia.

Shane was, without question, the world’s best front rower. He was a player with heart and commitment to whatever team he took the field with and was the cornerstone that the Broncos built their entire team ethos around. Someone who thrived on a challenge, Shane was one player coach Wayne Bennett and the team knew they could rely on when the going got tough, with Wayne saying, “Shane is in the category of the most exceptional people I’ve ever met.” Shane finished his Rugby League career with a fairy tale ending after the Brisbane Broncos won the 2006 Grand Final.

In retirement, Shane released his successful autobiography, Warhorse and ventured into the media with the Seven Network in Brisbane presenting sport on the local Seven News bulletin on Sundays to Thursdays. He has also worked on-screen with Matthew Johns in the first and only season of The Matty Johns Show. Shane’s pub at Leyburn (QLD) The Royal Hotel is the longest, continuously licensed premises in Queensland.

In 2008, Shane was named in the list of Australia’s 100 Greatest Players (1908-2007) by the NRL and ARL. He was also named in the NRL Team of the 1990s (in 2003).
