Building Confidence and Resilience
Sunita Subedi is an Emergency Registered Nurse with Queensland Health, currently working in the Emergency Department at Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH). She moved to Australia at 19 (in 2017) with no network or support and a strong desire to build a life on her own terms. It was her first time living away from home; navigating a new country alone was challenging, lonely, and overwhelming at times, but it taught her resilience, self-reliance, and the importance of trusting herself.
Born and raised in Pokhara, Nepal, she grew up in a middle-class family of five: her mother, father, an elder brother, an elder sister, and herself as the youngest of three children. Living in a city, she and her siblings had access to education and opportunities from an early age. Her parents valued education deeply and worked hard to provide for them. Sunita attended a private boarding school on scholarship and consistently ranked first in her class until Year 10. She expected a high distinction of 90 percent in her board exams but scored 79.75 percent—an outcome that stayed with her as the first time she fell short of her own expectations. That experience pushed her to grow beyond academics and learn that setbacks are part of the journey.
She also witnessed a different reality: children in villages who could not attend school due to financial hardship. She often reflected that if her parents had not been educated, her life might have been very different—perhaps an early marriage, lack of independence, and no opportunity to choose her own path. That awareness shaped her worldview and made her realize that knowledge and awareness are powerful. She resolved that as she grows and succeeds, she can lead by example and inspire others. That conviction is a key reason she aspires to become a public speaker.
Choosing independence over a traditional path after school, Sunita moved to Australia and started from scratch. She completed Certificate III and IV in Aged Care and Individual Support, a nursing diploma, and later a Bachelor of Nursing Science from the University of the Sunshine Coast in 2022. She completed her Graduate Registered Nurse year at Nambour General Hospital and now works in the Emergency Department at SCUH, managing complex, high-pressure clinical situations while supporting patients and their families during vulnerable moments.
Previously, she contributed through small-scale social work and donations but realised those efforts created temporary impact. She believes knowledge and awareness create lasting change: when one person—especially a woman—is educated, the effect reaches the entire family and future generations.
Inspired by voices such as Mel Robbins and Steven Bartlett, Sunita is on a mission to share what she has learned to help others build confidence, make better decisions, and improve their lives. Her goal is to become a public speaker, build a platform, and create scaled impact for women and people of all backgrounds who feel limited by their circumstances.
She embraces risk because growth does not come from comfort—she has skydived, bungee jumped and travelled solo. Her message is simple: perfect conditions are not required to start. With courage, persistence, and action, anyone can build a meaningful life and leave a positive impact. She hopes her journey demonstrates that with determination, the right mindset, and action, anyone can create the life they want and make a lasting, positive difference.
