NRL Legend – Cronulla Sharks 2016 Premiership

Wade Graham is a former professional rugby league footballer renowned for his leadership, skill, and versatility. He played predominantly as a second-row forward but also featured at five-eighth and lock during his illustrious 16-season career in the National Rugby League (NRL).

Wade’s rugby league journey began in his hometown, where he played for Blacktown City and attended The Hills Sports High School. His exceptional talent saw him represent New South Wales at under-16 and under-18 levels, as well as playing for the Penrith Panthers’ Harold Matthews and SG Ball teams. At just 17 years old, he made his NRL debut for the Panthers in Round 15 of the 2008 season, playing at five-eighth against the St George Illawarra Dragons. Over three seasons with Penrith, Wade established himself as a promising young talent.

In 2011, Wade joined the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks, where he would spend the majority of his career. His leadership qualities quickly became evident, and he was appointed club captain, a role he held for several years. Wade was instrumental in the Sharks’ historic 2016 NRL Premiership victory, contributing significantly to their success. Throughout his time at Cronulla, he became a cornerstone of the team’s forward pack, known for his defensive prowess, work ethic, and ability to break through opposition lines.

At the representative level, Wade earned recognition for his performances with New South Wales in the State of Origin series, representing the Blues in 6 games between 2016 and 2019. He also represented Australia in 8 Tests, showcasing his abilities on the international stage. Additionally, Wade played for the Prime Minister’s XIII, NSW City Origin, and the Indigenous All Stars, further highlighting his versatility and commitment to the sport.

In August 2023, Wade announced his retirement from the NRL, bringing an end to his distinguished career. He concluded his playing days with a total of 297 NRL games, 50 tries, and 2 goals. Following his retirement, Wade remained involved in the rugby league community, contributing to various initiatives and maintaining his connection with the sport.

Wade’s legacy in rugby league is defined by his dedication, skill, and leadership. He is remembered as one of the game’s great forwards, whose contributions to the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks and Australian rugby league have left an enduring impact.
