Andrew Griffin
Anti-Inactivity Crusader, Founder GRIFFIT
As a youth sports champion raised in a big Coffs Harbour family, Andrew Griffin had a top 10 National tennis ranking and competed in long jump for Australia in the Junior World Championships. After rising to head up a tennis program in Asia, Andrew gained a Sports and Behavioural Science Degree at Sydney University and launched his own business running outdoor fitness and wellbeing classes.
Having coached over 10,000 clients, in the last two decades, Andrew survived a shock cancer diagnosis in 2014 and dedicated himself to teaching clients to use positive lifestyle changes as a vehicle for personal and professional peak performance.
Â
Until his cancer battle, Andrew’s work focus was driving down running times and building unbreakable physical physiques. After his treatment, Andrew realised life is not a walk through and that success means nothing if you’re not truly fulfilled in life. Believing that epiphany would translate to his clients’ results, Andrew turned his business on its head and focused on emotional health as the starting point for peak performance.
As founder of the Movement is Medicine Workshop, Andrew is on a global mission to build a community of happy, well-adjusted humans who understand the link between positive personal behaviour habits and consistent excellence. His aim is to use his voice as a sought-after keynote speaker and corporate facilitator to inspire the 87 per cent of Australians who don’t hit federally mandated exercise levels to see inactivity as the biggest health problem they may ever face.
Â
Not moving enough is a global killer. Inactivity is the fourth leading risk factor in the world for mortality—about 3.2 million deaths each year. In Australia, inactivity ranks second only to tobacco smoking in terms of the effect it has on disease and poor health. Every year, physically inactive Aussies cost the healthcare system an avoidable $1.5 billion. Almost nine million adults don’t move enough daily.
Â
As Australia’s leading anti-inactivity crusader, Andrew is looking to crush national killers including heart disease, diabetes, cancer and depression through the power of just getting off our butts and moving. His message? Exercise is the link between physical health, emotional balance, and professional high performance.
