55 Tests for Socceroos, 27 goals

John Aloisi is best remembered for scoring the winning penalty goal against Uruguay in 2005 that sent the Socceroos to their first World Cup in 32 years.

John’s penalty kick against Uruguay was voted as one of three greatest moments in Australian sporting history by the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 2008.

John played a total of 55 games for the Socceroos scoring 27 goals. In a career spanning 20 seasons, with league totals of 459 games and 127 goals, John was the first Australian to ever play and score in La Liga, the Premier Leagues and Serie A. Returning to Australia in 2007, John enjoyed a stint in the A-League competition playing for the Central Coast Mariners, Sydney FC and Melbourne Heart. John hung up his boots at the end of the 2010 season.

After retiring, John moved into coaching and in recent years has been the Head Coach of Melbourne Heart (2012-2013) and Brisbane Roar (2015-2018).
