Olympic Gold at 3 Games

Libby Trickett won a Gold Medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics, the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2012 London Olympics. In 2016, Libby was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame.

An avid swimmer since she was four, Libby was always a prominent athlete. Her skills saw her take on some of the world’s best swimmers and come out on top, as well as competing in multiple major tournaments. She is married to swimmer Luke Trickett and is a proud mother.

In 2003, Libby made her debut as a professional swimmer at the tenth Federation Internationale de Natation World Aquatics Championship in Barcelona. She was coached by Stephan Widmer and her impressive skills saw her take home bronze medals in both the 50m freestyle and the 4 x 100m freestyle relay.

At the Olympics at Athens in 2004, Libby won a gold in the 4 x 100m freestyle relay and a bronze in 50m freestyle. In the same year, she also participated in the 7th Federation Internationale de Natation Sort Course World Championship, which was held at the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. Her excellent performance saw her bring home two golds in the 100m freestyle and 4 x 100m medley relay, two silvers in the 50m freestyle and 4 x 200m freestyle relay, and two bronze medals in 50m freestyle and 4 x 100m freestyle events.

Libby also participated in another Federation Internationale de Natation World Aquatics Championship in 2005 in Montreal, Canada. She won three gold medals, in the 50m freestyle, 4 x 100m relay and the 4 x 100m medley relay. She also won two silver medals in the 100m butterfly and the 4 x 100m freestyle relay.

The 2006 Commonwealth Games held in Melbourne was where Libby really made her mark as a successful swimmer. She won five gold medals in the 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 4 x 100m freestyle relay, 4 x 200m freestyle relay and the 4 x 100m medley events. She also won two silver medals in the 200m butterfly and the 100m freestyle.

At the 2007 World Aquatics Championship, Libby walked away with an impressive five gold medals, which she won in the 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 100m butterfly, 4 x 100m freestyle relay and the 4 x 100m medley relay.

Libby also participated at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, where she won two gold medals in the 100m butterfly and the 4 x 100m medley relay as well as winning a silver in the 100m freestyle.

Since retirement, Libby has dabbled in TV, a sales and marketing role for a technology company and worked as a radio announcer for Triple M in Brisbane. From 2020 Libby has focused on pursuing her work in mental health (and as an ambassador for Beyond Blue and Queensland Mental Health), studying a Bachelor of Counselling as well as taking care of her three young daughters, Poppy, Edwina and Bronte. Libby received an OAM for her contribution to swimming in 2005.
